It’s that time of year again! If you’re in Austin, you should check out the East Austin Studio Tour because it’s awesome. Hundreds of artists open their studios to the public as a way to showcase their artwork both this weekend and next weekend. Most artists are there in their studios which allows you to ask them questions and purchase anything that might be for sale. Some even work while this is going on, so you can see their process. There are also events and happenings.
This is my third year attending EAST, and every year it just seems so overwhelming. Today I went to Canopy, which is a big complex full of studios. The Museum of Human Achievement and Blue Genie Art Industries are also on the same property. If you go there, you can see a lot of art in one area, but a lot of people are aware of this and so it’s crowded and parking is an issue. Park on a side street and the walk isn’t too far.
The folks at Citygram have put together a two-day guide to EAST which can help you decide where you’d like to go. Sometimes I just like to drive around and stop where I see the signs. Also, here is a good list of where to eat.
Just go! Art is good.
